Fitting the Telematics Smart Box

When? Where? Who?

Professionally Installed Device

We’ll fit your Telematics Smart Box at an arranged time to suit you, within seven days of your policy starting. It will only take about an hour.

The vehicle will need to be in a safe location (private road, private car park or driveway) for the engineer to be able to complete the installation.

A trained Telematics Smart Box engineer will come to you, at the agreed time. You will need to make sure your vehicle's electrics are working so the engineer can test the Telematics Smart Box once it has been fitted.

Self Install Device

You will be sent a Telematics plug-in device via post, you should receive this within two to three days after the start date of your policy. This device is about the size of a matchbox that plugs into your car’s OBD-II port (this stands for On Board Diagnostics). Full instructions on how to install will be included with the device.

Installing the device is simple and should only take a few minutes, once it's plugged in for the first time, the device will automatically activate. If you need help installing your device just call us on 0330 100 2337 and we will be happy to help.

You must plug in your device as soon as you receive it, failure to do this will result in cancellation of your policy.

When will I be covered?

You will be insured to drive as soon as your policy begins. You’ll receive a confirmation email confirming your insurance. Please still drive sensibly and safely while you are waiting for your Telematics Smart Box installation.

What do you need to do?

You will need to call us to confirm your policy details before the installation of the Telematics Smart Box. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

How much?

You don't need to worry about any hidden fees- the cost of your Telematics Smart Box is included within your £350 arrangement fee, which is incorporated in the overall price of your car insurance.

What happens to the box if I cancel?

You can cancel your policy at any point. However, after the professionally installed device has been fitted, it will normally stay in your vehicle and will be deactivated if you cancel your policy. If you have a self-install device, you can unplug the device ready for us to contact you with instructions on how to send the device back to us, including a pre-paid returns label.
